The Tsakopoulos Hellenic Collection in the University Library at California State
University, Sacramento is an extensive resource
for research and study for the campus and Sacramento regional
communities, as well as scholars and researchers nationally
and internationally. With its focus on the Hellenic world,
the Collection contains early through contemporary materials
across the social sciences and humanities relating to Greece,
its neighboring countries, and the surrounding region. There
is a broad representation of languages in the Collection,
with a rich assortment of primary source materials.
The Collection, under the direction of Curator George I.
Paganelis, opened on September 2, 2003,
and consists of a large circulating book collection, journal
holdings, electronic resources, non-print media materials,
rare books, archival materials, art and artifacts. With
the exception of the rare and media materials, the Collection
is housed in a separate, named area on the third floor of
the University Library and is accessible the same hours as the main library building. Adjacent to the main Collection Room are a Reference Room and a multipurpose classroom dedicated in honor of retired California State Senator Nicholas C. Petris in 2005. Rare and archival materials from the Collection are
located in the Department
of Special Collections and University Archives and media
materials in the Library
Media Center.
