Library Media Center houses audio and video cassettes as well as
films, filmstrips, slide/tape presentations, and a computer software collection.
You may reserve them using an online form.
Except for some audio cassettes and CD's and
feature films, most media materials do not
circulate out of the Library except to classrooms. They are checked out at the Media
Checkout Counter for use on the equipment in the Media Viewing Carrels and Microform
Reader Printers located in the center of the room. Staff in the Library Media Center will
show you how to operate the equipment. Use EUREKA to find
material on your topic and then use the EUREKA Limit/Sort search feature to restrict your search to
Location: Library Media
Center.
Slide Collection
The Slide
Collection, located inside the Library Media Center in room 1526, contains
over 100,000 slides in many subject
areas but with emphasis on art. If you wish to explore the contents of the Slide
Collection, use EUREKA to do an
Author search under the artist's name, then use the
Limit/Sort button to limit to Video/Slide
under Material Type. Renaissance artists (14th, 15th and 16th century)
have online links to the over 7,000 slide images, such as this one of Fra.
Angelico's Adoration
of the Magi.
The Special
Collections and University Archives Department contains not only the history of CSUS but
several valuable collections of special local interest, such as the Japanese American
Archival Collection and the papers of Congressman John Moss. Though the University Archives is also called 1 SOUTH, there is
no direct route from the Library Media Center to the University Archives. You must exit
the Library on 1 NORTH and return south (left) along the breezeway.
The Archives has limited
hours, so you must make an appointment with the Archivist, before planning your research
there. Call 278-6144.

University Media
Services
Below the Library Media Center, on the lower floor of the South
Wing, is the University Media Services. Their entrance is under the ramp at the south end
of the building. It is necessary to exit the Library in order to reach the University
Media Services. University Media Services provide the classroom audiovisual equipment and
production services on campus. It is not part of the Library but merely shares the same
building and provides classroom access to some of the same instructional media.
